Carbon Impact Offset Program

Carbon-Conscious Travel with Mad Tours and Events

At MAD Tours and Events, we are committed to creating extraordinary journeys that also respect our planet. Every detail from itinerary design to local partnerships, is thoughtfully curated to reduce both your environmental and carbon footprint.

We make conscious choices such as minimizing non-recyclable waste, prioritizing local and organic food options, and selecting eco-friendly accommodations and packaging across our destinations. Whenever possible, we optimize itineraries to limit short-haul flights and encourage more sustainable modes of transportation.

We also recognize that international air travel remains one of the largest contributors to global carbon emissions. That’s why we encourage all our travelers to offset the carbon impact of their flights, a simple, affordable step that contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable future for everyone

How Carbon Offsetting Works

At MAD Tours and Events, we believe every traveler can play a role in protecting our planet. Air travel inevitably produces greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide (CO₂), which contribute to global warming. While these emissions cannot be eliminated entirely, they can be balanced through carbon offsetting.

Carbon offsetting works by calculating the CO₂ emissions generated by your flights and translating them into a monetary contribution that supports certified environmental projects. These initiatives work to reduce or capture carbon emissions elsewhere, creating a positive environmental impact.

For example, contributions may fund reforestation and forest preservation projects, which help maintain natural “carbon sinks” that absorb and store CO₂. Other offset programs invest in renewable energy, clean technologies, or energy-efficient solutions, often benefiting local communities and supporting sustainable development in emerging regions.

By offsetting your carbon footprint, you help make every journey with Mad Tours and Events part of a global effort toward responsible and regenerative travel.

How You Can Offset Your Flight

At MAD Tours and Events, we encourage our travelers to make a conscious effort to offset the carbon footprint of their flights. Offsetting is a simple yet impactful way to balance the emissions produced during air travel by supporting verified environmental and community-based projects around the world.

There are several ways to offset your emissions, and the key is choosing a credible and transparent program. Many organizations claim to offer carbon offsetting, but not all are equally reliable or properly certified. That’s why we recommend selecting programs backed by recognized environmental bodies, those that clearly outline where your contributions go and how they make a difference.

Some airlines now include carbon calculators or offset options during the booking process. However, when this feature isn’t available or if you wish to personally choose the type of project you support, we suggest offsetting directly through Gold Standard, one of the most trusted global certification bodies for climate and development projects.

Founded by a coalition of NGOs, Gold Standard supports impactful projects that not only reduce CO₂ emissions but also create long-term social and environmental benefits in developing communities. Examples include forest regeneration initiatives and clean cooking programs that improve both air quality and livelihoods.

Offsetting your flight is quick and straightforward:

  • Select a Gold Standard-certified project you’d like to support.
  • Estimate the amount of CO₂ you wish to offset.
  • Make your contribution directly online.

For reference:

  • A round-trip flight between Europe and East Coast of the United States produces approximately 1.6 to 2 tonnes of CO₂ per traveler.
  • A round-trip flight between Europe and the West coast of the United States emits around 2,5 to 4 tonnes of CO₂ per traveler.

You can also explore partner platforms that manage Gold Standard-certified projects and include reliable emission calculators, such as:

If you’re looking for companies and standards that offer services similar to Gold Standard (i.e., robust carbon-offset certification and project support), here are several reputable alternatives worth considering:

 1.  Verra (Verified Carbon Standard – VCS)  https://verra.org/programs/verified-carbon-standard/

Verra manages the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), one of the largest standards in the voluntary carbon market, certifying emissions reduction and removal projects across many sectors.

  • Projects cover forestry, land-use, renewable energy, waste, and more.
  • Widely accepted and used in global voluntary carbon markets, meaning offset purchases under VCS are relatively accessible.

2.  Atmosfair  https://www.atmosfair.de/en/

A German non-profit offering carbon offsets (especially for flights, travel, events) and investing in small-scale renewable and efficiency projects in developing countries.

  • Strong reputation for transparency and accountability.
  • The offsets are based on projects that comply with the Gold Standard.
  • Has a flight emission calculator, making it relevant for travel-related offsetting.

3.  TerraPass   https://terrapass.com

A U.S.-based social enterprise that provides carbon offset products for individuals and businesses, including through registered projects under recognized standards.

  • Covers a variety of project types: renewable energy, landfill methane capture, farm digesters.
  • Offers relatively user-friendly mechanisms (for smaller businesses, individuals) to buy offsets.

4.  myclimate  https://www.myclimate.org/

A Swiss climate protection foundation offering carbon offsets and reduction services.

  • It designs its own projects and offsets under high standards.
  • Offers services globally; can be a good fit for international travel/travel-brand offset strategies.

By offsetting your flight, you help ensure that every journey with MAD Tours and Events contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable planet, turning travel into a force for positive change.
