DISCOVER LITTLE HAVANA

LITTLE HAVANA TOUR

A stay in Miami is never complete without a little trip to Little Havana! Diversión garantizada (fun guaranteed)! Did you know that 1.2 million Cubans and people of Cuban origin reside in the greater Miami area? You don’t go to Cuba, Cuba comes to you!

Embark with MAD Tours and Events for a Cuban experience! Discover Cuban life in Miami during a two-hour walking tour through Little Havana, the city’s mythical popular neighborhood. You’ll feel almost as if you were in Cuba! Your friendly guide will explain the importance and significance of the many monuments in the neighborhood. You’ll also have the opportunity to not only observe a cigar factory and domino players, but also to taste Cuban cuisine and maybe even dance a little salsa!

Let yourself be tempted by delectable Cuban specialties like a cup of rich Cuban coffee or cafecito, a strong and creamy espresso or an empanada, a traditional Cuban pastry.  We know that alcohol abuse is bad for your health (and for the rest of your visit), but it would be a shame to stop by the CubaOcho cultural center and not sip on a mojito! The center is a truly marvelous showcase of Cuban history and art. Its rich collections enable you to appreciate the importance of Cuban culture in Miami.

Little Havana is the must-see Cuban district of Miami, the Cuban community is intimately (and sometimes painfully) linked to the history of the Cuban revolution. Cubans in Little Havana brought their culture, their joyful attitudes toward life, their lively and diverse music and of course their yummy Caribbean cuisine. Discover the wealth of Cuban culture by strolling down Calle Ocho with us on this memorable tour.

Famous Chicago Pizza tour: A Foodie Adventure with Sample Slices!

Nowhere is Deep Dish Pizza so iconic as in Chicago. Chicago-style pizza is prepared according to several assorted styles developed expressly in Chicago. The most iconic is at Chicago Uno Grill, formerly Pizzeria Uno, the oft-acknowledged inventor of the original Deep- Dish style, featuring a thick crust and upside-down base with an olive oil foundation. Though the specific inventors from Pizzeria Uno are disputed; (Accounts vary; was it Ike Sewell and Ric Riccardo, the 1943 founders of Pizzeria Uno? Or was it one of their employees, pizza-great Rudy Malnati Sr.?)  Mysteries aside, Deep Dish has spread out over Chicago with many variations, including a slightly thinner butter crust alternative. Vote on your favorite! As we pursue our daytime guided pizza tour, we will see Chicago like a local, visiting four pizzerias in off-the-beaten path restaurants (best to skip the lengthy Uno line!), and sample more than four slices of local Chicago pizza variations! Learn the history, ingredients, and physics of how these creative, top-notch pizzas are prepared. Along the way, as we enjoy our walk through the legacy of Chicago pizza, we will explore the history of local Chicago neighborhoods.

Chinatown & North Beach Walking Tour with Lunch

Chinatown, North Beach and Little Italy Walking Tour

Walk through both San Francisco’s Chinatown and nearby Little Italy neighborhood, known as North Beach. Learn why San Francisco came to have a Chinatown and how the 1906 Earthquake affected immigration trends. Chinatown’s bustling 24 blocks (the oldest in the city!) include traditional shops, tantalizing restaurants, delicious foods such as Dim Sum and Chop Suey, ornate lamp posts, and Pagoda-style architecture. See an open air food market, pass the Great Star Theater, Canton Flower shop, and more of the area’s exotic shops.  Rest assured you will have plenty of time to shop!  Visit a Chinese pharmacy to learn about traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Hear Chinese ghost stories. Did you know the fortune cookie was invented right here in San Francisco? Learn about Chinese-American ingenuity in the world famous Fortune Cookie Factory. After Chinatown, walk next door to San Francisco’s North Beach, known as little Italy. After the 1906 earthquake, this neighborhood experienced an influx of Northern Italian immigrants. Italian architecture and cuisine still shapes the neighborhood.  Visit “The Italian Cathedral of the West”, St. Peter’s And Paul’s Church (when available). This cathedral has proudly reflected the neighborhood’s Italian roots since it was built in 1884.  Nearby, find the heart of the neighborhood, Washington Square Park. Learn about Lillian Hitchcock Coit and the history of Coit Tower. The Tower offers stunning views of San Francisco and murals made by the 1930’s Works Progress Administration artists. You may be surprised to find that Little Italy was home to many poets and writers of the Beatnik generation. These include Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and more. Stop in at their former stomping grounds: City Lights Bookstore. This famous bookseller of world literature and progressive works narrowly escaped closure in 2020. Finish up with an authentic Italian lunch in North Beach.
