Did you know that the English word “limousine” comes from the French “limousin“? This word was originally used in a bygone era to describe a means of transport used by craftsmen and bakers. It consisted of a wooden horse-drawn cart equipped with a roof to protect riders from the rain. 

From these humble origins, the famous American limousine transformed into the emblematic transport of the stars and the jet set. So, why not treat yourself to a spectacular tour of Miami in a limousine! Formal evening wear with rhinestones and sequins is strongly suggested. 

Drinks are provided on board our limousine, as well as a musical playlist appropriate to this glamorous and festive occasion. At the beginning of the tour, don’t forget to ask the driver to take pictures of you in front of the limousine to show off to your friends!

The buildings of Miami are beautifully lit at night. The limousine will take you everywhere you want to go to capture nice views of the city of South Beach and Miami Beach by night. It’s up to you to set the tone for this limo ride: a cozy atmosphere, a little gossip like Blair and Serena or a festive atmosphere like “No Project X.”  You’ll have the chance to check out Biscayne Bay, Bayside Coconut Grove and Coconut Walk, Brickell Avenue, Little Havana and Calle Ocho. Everglades National Park is a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve on the southern tip of Florida. The Everglades’ abundant wildlife includes the endangered leatherback turtle, Florida panther and West Indian manatee. If you go on the sunset cruise, the return trip will take place at nightfall, under the glorious sky illuminated by the bright city lights of Miami. Explore the Tremé neighborhood on foot to learn the history of jazz, the civil rights movement and the communities past and present that shape this vibrant city. Your guided walking tour of Tremé,  the undisputed birthplace of New Orleans jazz and the center of the city’s Creole culture will take you to another world. Some of the best known jazz greats from New Orleans’ Tremé neighborhood include Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Pete Fountain, Wynton and Ellis Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr, Kermit Ruffins, Danny Barker, Trombone Shorty, and Jeremy Davenport to name a few. Today, Tremé is still home to musicians as well as artists and craftsmen who contribute to the development of the ongoing neighborhood story. We will discuss the city’s modern brass band tradition. On a serious note, you will learn about this neighborhood’s key role in the rise of the civil rights movement. In fact, civil rights champions often gathered and dined inside the neighborhoods’ most famous historic restaurants!  We will then visit St. Augustine Church, the oldest African American Catholic Church, where you can visit The Tomb of the Unknown Slave.  On the lighter side, we will also see the only laundromat that made its way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Have fun spotting Tremé’s many famous movie and television scenes, notably the HBO’s popular 2010-1013 television series Treme, which took place in the neighborhood post-hurricane Katrina.  We conclude the tour with our return to the French Quarter. No worries– you can channel the festivities year-round by visiting Mardi Gras workshops and museums. Here, Mardi Gras floats are built, Mardi Gras Native Americans are celebrated and lavish costumes are constantly on parade!  Discover the magic of Mardi Gras on a self-guided tour of Mardi Gras World. Here, artists and craftsmen have been designing the famous Parade’s oldest, largest, and most lavish floats since 1947. Begin your visit with an introductory film about the history and origin of this famous festival, and learn how the Museum and Studio represent this celebrated history. Hungry? Have you ever heard of Mardi Gras’ legendary King Cake? Try a slice of this colorful blend of coffee cake and cinnamon roll (filled with surprises!). After this, tour the warehouse where the float artists work year-round building nearly 500 of these creative, themed floats.  These floats are a truly labor of love: they are decorated and built annually for this famous celebration. You will see the craftsmen’s skilled techniques, choice of themes, key elements, finishing details and even the painting process. Take all the selfies you want–even visit a float. Begin your appreciation of New Orleans’ rich musical history with a visit to Louis Armstrong Park, dedicated to this iconic jazz trumpeter and vocalist and the New Orleans jazz tradition. At the outskirts of the French Quarter, this park is a preeminent site of musical and cultural history. Inside, visit Congo Square, where African slaves of the past gathered to sing, dance and celebrate. Close your eyes and you can almost hear their drums beating. Next, travel down Basin Street to see the few remaining buildings of what was once the backside of Storyville, New Orleans’ official red light district from 1897-1917. This area, once lined with upscale musical saloons, was the birthplace or performance venue of several influential jazz musicians like Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, and Pops Foster.
