ARCHITECTURAL VISIT ITT

Illinois ITT architecture tour by an architect –
4 hours walking tour (Niche architecture focus)

Highlights include:  Illinois Institute of technology (IIT), University of Chicago, Regenstein Library by Walter Netsch of S.O.M., Joe and Rika Mansueto Library by Murphy and Jahn.

Chicago is known for its magnificent architecture and desirable location on the shores of Lake Michigan. We will appreciate this cultural heritage, with detailed tours of two architectural havens: The University of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology. Our tour guide, a trained architect, will begin with a tour of the University of Chicago. We will visit the exterior of the campus, which includes the following buildings: Booth School of Business by Rafael Viñoly just facing the famous Robie House by Frank Lloyd Wright, Law School Library by Eero Saarinen, the Regenstein Library by Walter Netsch of S.O.M., and more sites. Must-see:  the eye-catching Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, enclosed in a stunning elliptical glass dome by Murphy and Jahn. After this grand tour, we move onto Chicago’s world-renowned Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). This University—the largest in the Chicago area—is the city center. It offers programs in engineering and architecture, among others. We will walk through this famous Campus, designed by Mies van der Rohe. Stops include Herman Hall by Walter Netsch, the historically significant S.R. Crown Hall home to the School of Architecture and the Library, both designed by Mies van der Rohe. And we will end with the Village by Helmut Jahn, the first building constructed on the Main Campus in nearly thirty years.
